Comparison is the basis of unhappiness, and also the basis of appreciation.

If you think you're unhappy looking at other kids with 'better' toys, more pocket money, etc, at the age of approximately 6 to 10, maybe you'll feel better knowing that your parents were living through the Japanese occupation. Time to start appreciating them trying to give you a life they never had.
