PM Lee's apology

Sorry if I'm simply overly sceptical, but I would like to ask, "Why now?"

I have drawn an analogy to my friends recently, because they said that PM Lee's apologies solved their issue they have been having with PAP - Their arrogance.

Imagine this hypothetical scenario.

Suppose you are the judge of a court, and there is a trial of a murderer today. The murder was committed in May 5th 2022. The convict, fled the scene of murder immediately after committing the crime. 7 days after the murder, the convict surrendered himself to the police, saying that he have realized his mistakes and is genuinely repentant

Now, what do the judge look at?

(1) - Why did you suddenly realize your mistake and surrender, only after 7 days?
(2) - What was the murderer doing in the period of time between his escape and the day he surrender?

In short, we question his motives for surrendering. Was he truly repentant? If he was, why did he not surrender the day after the murder? Did he surrender because there are no other options out? That it was just a matter of time before he was apprehended? Was it an act of desperation?

Now, the judge is us, Singaporeans. Why is your verdict?

I would love to believe that it was a sincere apology. That he realized the woes of Singaporeans, and he is willing to make up for it. But issuing it 3 days before polling day just don't smell right. There have to be a political agenda behind it. Let's see if MM Lee apologizes. It would be... epic.
