first up, we went to eat PRATA, which totally suck to the core. somemore the stupid uncle don't want to serve us, need us to go to him and order. EXCEPT FOR LIWEI, who made a simple hand signal, and the idiot is at his command. wow, what power does liwei possess =x
after that, we went to 7-11 to buy our day worth of food. me and benedict bought 10 bars of baked apple granola bar(which comes in a box), and 2 bottles of 1.5l mineral water.
without any delay, we set off for UBIN!
the price of the ferry ride have been raised, from $2.00 in the past to $2.50. if i'm not wrong, it used to be $1.00 in the past. hahah. long time ago, though.
after we reached, we started to look for the best deal for the bicycles. after surveying a little, yakai decided on a store, which rented bikes for $6. luckily they had me around la, i open my mouth, say "uncle, $5 can anot". the uncle immediately agree la. hahaha. so, in total, i helped them save $7. not bad huh. hahah.
and so, our ubin expedition began. we decided to conquer the island part by part. so we segmented it into: LEFT, CENTER and RIGHT.
we started off with RIGHT, with the initial intention of making a loop to the NPCC campsite. then halfway through, we went in the wrong direction, and to a place where chek jawa is located. so we parked our bikes outside and went in.(the place is out of bounds to bicycles)
actually, i think it's some wildlife reserve place. first thing we did was to go up the tower, where we can see around a quarter of singapore. but because we noticed a sign that says "maximum load: 20 people", we immediately went down after peaking the 'mountain' cause we realised that there's MORE THAN 20 people up there. hahaha.
next, we went to walk around this wooden path, which is built on water. the water there is very clean, compared to that of the mangrooves. the scenery there is very night, and it's super quiet, and serene. a fantastic place to relax, that's what i think.
anyway, we sat down at a bench located along the wooden path, because i guess it hit upon us that it wouldn't be that easy to find a decent place to sit down at anywhere else in ubin. hahha. so we ate our lunch there, at 1130 if i'm not wrong.
now, we have completed the RIGHT side of the island already. we continued our expedition to travel to the NPCC campsite, which is at the CENTER. but because yakai say the earth trial to the place is closed down because of an accident, we had to make a loop from where we are, back to the starting point, and finally to the campsite. so, after some cycle cycle, we finally reached the npcc campsite, which is out of bounds to unauthorised personnel. so, we are only able to look at the high obstacles from outside. hahah. i still think it's very cool there.(i was from NPCC, if you didn't know)
then we went to the beach just beside the npcc campsite, just to explore the island. haha. then we were reading the inscriptions on the wooden pavillon, marked by correction fluid. apparently, there's this chinese one that is like diary entries, which is dated. but apparently, it is all written in a day can. all the shades of the correction fluid is the same, and it's written nicely from the top downwards. apparently, if the entries were really years apart, someone would have occupied the space below his entry.
now, we're done with the CENTER of the island, and we soon made our way to conquer the LEFT side. we cycled back to the starting point, and made our way to the LEFT side, where the quarries are located. after some cycling, we found ourselves at a 'dead end', or what they call it. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, THE MINI-PATH is where leads back to the NPCC campsite can. cause i remember i cycled from somewhere to that place last time, with my NPCC squad mates. anyway, my idea of going through that path got rejected, and we made our way back to the fork road.
now, there's this lady that told us that we have went the wrong way if we wanted to go to the quarry(actually, we didn't go the wrong way. after all, our motive is to EXPLORE the whole of pulau ubin, not just the quarry) anyway, she told us that we have to go to the other path for us to reach the quarry. so we cycled in, even though there's this barrier, just like the one in car parks where you have to insert your cash card. after much cycling, we thought that we must be in the wrong path. actually, it was initially because we have cycled for very long, and saw no signs of a quarry. but the next moment, we noticed a sign which says "OBS 30", which means we are in OBS territory. refusing to accept the fate that we are unable to find the quarry, and insisting that the quarry is up ahead, we cycled for what seemed like 10meters, before we saw another sign, saying "OBS TERRITORY. TRESPASSERS WILL BE PROSECUTED." ah well, i guess it's a good reason for us to accept our fate.
then, after making our way to the forked road, the auntie told us that the quarry is like, not that far away. so, we made our way back, by foot, because the terrain aint that easy to cycle(which probably means that the energy required to move to the site by foot is lower than that by cycling.) so we walked and walked. before long, we were already at the site, where we can view the whole quarry. hahha. nothing much, aint that fantastic a view i have expected, even though it's quite nice. after this, we decided to go to 'benedict's mountain', where he claims that we can see the whole of singapore from there.
some distance up the mountain(which is a hill, in fact), we decided to go up by foot, and lock our bicycle below, due to the steepness and inaccessibility of the mountain. so we quickly locked up our bikes (because of the dense population of MOSQUITOS), and set foot up the hill. okay, after walking some distance up, benedict says, "this is the second level of the mountain", and from there, we can see the same quarry, but with a view which is 10 times better than the previous view. not willing to accept the fact that we didn't scale the mountain, some of us(me benedict, liwei, aik siang) continued our journey up, while the others stayed below, cause of physical barriers. soon, we reached a path close to the summit of the mountain. but JUST NICE, GOT A TREE WHICH WAS PROBABLY STRUCK BY LIGHTNING, COVER THE PATH TOTALLY, and hence we cannot go up to the top. damn sian. hahah. so we made our way back to the second level. we took some photos there, which i think is in liwei's phone. (LIWEI, SEND ME THE PHOTO IF YOU SEE THIS)
immediately, after taking the photos, we made our way back down QUICKLY, because of the MOSQUITOS which are crazy in amount. ah, now, because majority of them decided that we should not continue riding, we are unable to go to the FAR LEFT of pulau ubin. too bad la, there also got a quarry, and have kind of a magnificent view. before long, we are already back at the starting point. benedict showed me an oven, which was there since the 1970's if i'm not wrong(if not, 1870s). this oven is so big, that we can even put liwei inside without any problem. hahah. then we took a boat back to mainland singapore.
because everyone is so exhausted by the intense cycling trip, all of us made our way to subway to enjoy a BIG MEAL. hahha. as usual, i ordered A FOOTLONG SUBWAY MELT, ACCOMPANIED BY A LARGE MEAL, WHICH CONSIST OF 3 COOKIES AND A LARGE DRINK. the hungry me ate them all down my stomach, without any problem, and i feel that i can finish one more of it. hahaha. after that, most of them left, leaving me, benedict, aik siang and yakai. and we just talk talk talk lo. but soon later, we all also went home la. after all, we are already very tired already.
ANYWAY, here's the pricing of ubin
2x ferry ride- $5.00
5 granola bars- $4.50
1x 1.5l bottle- $1.50
2egg,1plain prata- $4.00
SUBWAY- $12.50
snacks- $1.50
bicycle rental- $5.00
TOTAL- $34.00
so, in conclusion, it's quite expensive to go ubin, after all.
